Physio vs Chiro
What is the difference?
What is Physiotherapy
Physiotherapy is a healthcare profession that assesses, diagnoses, treats, and works to prevent disease and disability through physical means. We do not just stand still! Physiotherapists are not only experts in decreasing your pain but also experts in movement and function (biomechanics) who work in partnership with their patient's bodies to get them out of pain and restoring symmetry and correct movement to every part of your day. Physiotherapists assist in overcoming movement disorders, which may have been present from birth, acquired through accident or injury, or are the result of ageing or life-changing events. Physiotherapy can help recover from injury, reduce pain and stiffness, and increase mobility. A physiotherapist can also help you prevent further injury by listening to your needs and working with you to plan the most appropriate treatment for your condition, including setting goals and treatment outcomes. As first contact practitioners, a doctor's referral is not necessary to see a physiotherapist. Physiotherapists, doctors, and other health professionals will often work as part of a team to plan and manage treatment for a specific condition. What is Chiropractic
Chiropractic is a health care discipline based on the scientific premise that the body is a self-regulating, self-healing organism. These important functions are controlled by the brain, spinal cord, and all the nerves of the body. “Chiropractic” comes from the Greek word Chiropraktikos, meaning “done by hand.” The practice of chiropractic focuses on the relationship between structure (primarily the spine, and pelvis) and function (as coordinated by the nervous system) and how that relationship affects the preservation and restoration of health. The skull protects the delicate tissues of the brain. The moving bones of the spine protect the intricate communication pathways of the spinal cord and nerve roots. If these nervous system pathways are impaired, malfunction of the tissue and organ function throughout the body can result. Based on information from The Chiropractors’ Association of Australia |
