Ankle Pain

Ankle pain is one of the most common pains you experience!
The ankle pain has several causes and the solution is the right diagnosis.

Here are the most common causes of ankle pain:
• Sprain
• Tendinopathy
• Degenerative arthritis
• Fracture
• Biomechanical disorders

Sprain
Ankle pain due to sprain is one of the commonest causes of pain in the ankle.
A sprain is defined as the stretching or tearing of ligaments.
*Ligaments are the thick band of fibrous tissue which connect the bones in your joints.
Something as simple as walking on an uneven platform can cause your ankle to roll and sprain.
Fracture
Ankle fracture is another cause of ankle pain and it results from a break in one or more ankle bones. Avulsion fractures of your distal fibula are the commonest type of ankle fractures.
*Avulsion fracture is when a small bone attached to a tendon or ligament gets separated from the main bone due to injury.

An avulsion fracture can result from the ankle sprain too.
Talar dome fracture and Pott’s fracture are the other common fractures of ankle. While talar dome fracture is the fracture of talus bone, Pott’s fracture is the major fracture of Tibia and Fibula at the same time.

If you encounter fracture, you need the right diagnosis and treatment to prevent the worsening of your ankle pain.
Tendinopathies
Tendinopathies are tendon injuries.
Tendonitis is the inflammation of tendon and it occurs due to injury or overuse. A tendon injury can make it dislocate/ tear/ completely rupture.
*Tendons are flexible but inelastic band of thick fibrous tissue which connect your muscles to your bones.
*Pain and difficulty are a few of the signs of Inflammation.

Fasciopathies are the injuries of fascia.
* Fascia is a band of connective tissue made of collagen that attaches, encloses, stabilizes, and separates muscles and internal organs.
Plantar fasciitis is the commonest form of fasciitis.
